Beijing (China) Rug Late 20th century. Wool velour on a cotton backing. Against a champagne-colored background, four majestic dragons in old rose and celadon, undulating amid clouds, frame a circular medallion in which one of their kind is coiled. The border consists of a traditional design symbolizing a cluster of warm-colored clouds (ruyi yun), surmounted by breaking waves and their foam (haishui). Magnificent design imbued with symbolism.
