Important Savonnerie-style rug France. First third of the 20th century Wool pile on a cotton backing. A connected double molded border, in cream and celadon, with garlands of small flowers and floral scallops, encloses a segmented ruby-red field sown with multicolored flower corollas, supporting a large cream-colored “lace-like panel” with greenish floral interlacing and a central polychrome bouquet of flowers. A circular frame, along with an old-gold foliage garland, runs around this medallion. The cardinal points and corners feature floral compositions in celadon, old gold, and ruby.
