LENKORAN Rug Caucasus. Late 19th century. Wool pile on a wool backing. A navy-blue field features four and a half medallions, each composed of entomological motifs. These consist of a slender, arrow-shaped body adorned with plant motifs, framed by stylized depictions of two opposing ivory-colored dragons. Wide corollas separate them. Various medallions, small flowers, diamonds, and other small multicolored symbols complete the design. The frame consists of a wide ivory border featuring a succession of “double S” motifs, flanked by an inner brick-red counter-border with multicolored floral stems and foliage. Beautiful design and striking presence. H_125 cm L_325 cm Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
