KASHGAI Rug Iran. Mid-20th century. Wool pile on a wool backing. A wide, oblong, hexagonal cherry-red border—crocheted and serrated—covered with networks of Median stars, insect-like forms, small flowers, and “S” motifs, supports a central crocheted, polychrome medallion featuring stylized insect-like forms. The anthracite field, covered with small polychrome symbols, features four ivory-colored, crocheted, flamboyant hexagonal shapes with insect motifs, which serve as spandrels. The frame consists of six apricot, anthracite, ivory, and cherry-colored borders featuring geometric plant motifs. A beautiful color palette and striking ethnological design.
