SEIKHOUR Rug (Caucasus) Late 19th century Wool pile on a wool foundation. A wide royal blue inner border featuring a succession of “butterflies” in warm colors frames a brick-red field dotted with small plants and “S” motifs, supporting three magnificent depictions of stylized eagles. The wings—ivory, brick-red, and emerald green—are spread wide, with feathers billowing in the wind and open talons, supporting a geometric body in brick-red and royal blue adorned with plant motifs. An outer ivory border, featuring a series of multicolored calyxes and oak leaves, encircles the entire design. Accented with brick-red broken ribbons and garlands of botehs. A sublime example of a Caucasian Seïkhour rug, combining the decorative styles of the Tchalabert and Djiwa traditions. H_185 cm L_ 291 cm Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
