PENDERMA Rug Western Asia Minor. Late 19th century, early 20th century. Wool pile on a cotton backing. Two pistachio-colored counter-borders featuring floral motifs and vases of flowers frame a wide midnight-blue main border with bouquets of polychrome flowers. The purple field of this rug is adorned with two flower-covered columns supporting the plant-decorated arch of the mihrab, from which an oil lamp hangs. Two “reserves” with floral interlacing complete the design. (Natural oxidation) H_162 cm L_110 cm Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
