MARASALI Rug Caucasus—Shirvan. Mid-20th century. Wool pile on a wool backing. A navy-blue mihrab features three multicolored horsemen riding amid floral botehs and other animals. The arches are adorned with small Caucasian symbols. The main ivory border features a series of hatched “parrots,” flanked by two secondary borders in navy and cherry red with small star-shaped flowers. Beautifully naive.
