GHOUM Silk Carpet Iran. Mid-20th century Silk pile on a silk backing. A unique ivory mihrab, featuring a polylobed base and a Mughal-style mandorla at the top, opens through an arcade of four twisted columns onto trees of life and a vase filled with flowers, from which delicate floral stems emerge. The ivory interior vault, adorned with plant motifs, supports a marine-blue, multilobed floral medallion. The old-pink exterior vaults are adorned with swirling ivory foliage motifs, while two upper spandrels featuring emerald and ivory arabesques with plant motifs, as well as two lower blooming corollas set upon a floral sown pattern with a pink ground, enhance the overall design. The main old-gold border features a succession of emerald panels and ivory medallions adorned with multicolored cruciform floral compositions. Four ivory and old-gold counter-borders with garlands of small flowers complete the frame. Highly original. H_169 cm W_113 cm Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
