GHOUM Gallery Rug (Iran) Mid-20th century. Kork wool pile on a cotton backing. A wavy ivory field features eight symbolic depictions of multicolored cypress trees. They are set amid lush vegetation of polychrome floral stems and branches and are framed by seventeen cypress trees of the same style. An ivory border features a succession of star-shaped floral compositions, accented by small tricolor positive/negative scallops. Cherry-red outer braid. Beautifully elegant.
