Poetic and original carpet from TEHRAN (Iran) Circa 1940. Made of high-quality, silky lambswool pile on a cotton backing. An ivory field serves as a backdrop for a sublime Tree of Life with branches in swirling, leafy patterns adorned with multicolored flowers. Within it, a multitude of colorful birds flit about; some serve as prey for reptiles, others devour fish, while busy parents feed their offspring, who are chirping impatiently in their nests. Two lions and two wading birds face two chimeras emerging from the tree’s roots. This allegory symbolizes the struggle between good and evil. A wide marine-themed border features interlaced floral branches, where, once again, reptiles and birds clash. Opposite edge features a cream-colored border with stylized florets. Outer braid with positive/negative checkerboard motifs. Poetic and sublime design. H_ 205 cm L_145 cm Good overall condition. Expert: Frank KASSAPIAN
