Chanel, possibly by Coco Chanel. A classic mohair and tweed two-piece suit and skirt set, circa 1950-1970s, of bright Barbie pink textured tweed woven with green, cream, and gold-toned threads, comprising a jacket with a V-shaped neckline, gold-toned CC buttons, matching trim, and pink lining with a chain-weighted hem; and another matching skirt with a fitted waist, flared pleated lower section, back zip closure, and pink lining. Please note the sizing label of this lot is missing; please direct to the specialist department for specific measurements. (2) Grade C Provenance: From the Collection of Lady Colin Campbell. Notes: For collectors of historic Chanel, the possibility of an ensemble dating from Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s own tenure lends this lot particular interest, offering a potential connection to the designer whose approach to tailoring established the house’s enduring identity. The attribution remains tentative, but the textured tweed and chain-weighted jacket hem recall the construction associated with her celebrated suits. The vivid pink colourway brings a spirited elegance to the ensemble. Pink featured in Gabrielle Chanel’s own collections: the V&A preserves a rose-pink tweed suit made for Lauren Bacall for Spring/Summer 1959, providing a documented example of her use of the colour. [V&A ] Here, green, cream and gold-toned threads enrich the pink ground, giving the fabric depth and a subtle lustre. The result combines the composure of a tailored suit with an expressive palette, illustrating how colour and texture can enliven Chanel’s familiar silhouette.
