Memorabilia of the painter Charles ULMANN. A desk made of exotic wood that belonged to the painter Charles ULMANN. Included is a series of the artist’s personal photographs (and negatives) depicting Vietnam, as well as a portrait of the painter. Although a talented painter, his works are rare on the market. Charles Ulmann was among the pioneering Europeans drawn to the Far East before the founding of the Indochina School of Fine Arts in Hanoi in 1925. His work thus falls within the tradition of European depictions of Indochina during the colonial era, reflecting an interest in the region’s landscapes and historic sites. His presence in Indochina is documented notably in 1907, when he painted the city of Hué. This collection offers a poetic vision of Vietnam at that time, featuring bustling cities, unspoiled landscapes, and smiling figures. Dim (desk). 126 x 55 x 85 cm
