François MELIN (1941–2019), Attributed to. — CIRCA 1970 Beetle Metal sculpture Dimensions: 92 x 55 cm (as seen) This is likely a coffee table frame that has been repurposed by the current owners to serve as a wall sconce. François Melin, who passed away at the age of 77 in August 2019, was an artist from the Essonne department, residing in Villabé. He began creating art in the 1970s, armed with his blowtorch. As his art evolved, he developed a technique for assembling small brass plates, which became his signature style. “I started with wrought iron, then moved on to hammered brass. Later, I discovered that butt-welding metal plates allowed me to give my works more movement. Since then, I’ve worked exclusively with solid forms,” he said.
