Large Chinese export famille rose porcelain charger, Yongzheng ca. 1723-1735. Decorated with peasants and a court official on horseback fording a stream. David S. Howard notes in "The Choice of the Private Trader" that these “borderless” scenes where the illustration covers the entire surface of the plate, along with the present combination of colors, are relatively rare and must represent limited commissions for this style of decoration. Provenance: Duvauchel, Paris; Sotheby's, London, “Chinese Export Porcelain and Works of Art,” 16 May 1995, Lot 138; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Diameter: 15 3/4 in.
