Chinese export famille rose porcelain plate, ca. early Qianlong period. Enameled with a scene of fishermen catching carp in a river as cranes fly above. David S. Howard notes in "The Choice of the Private Trader" that these “borderless” scenes where the illustration covers the entire surface of the plate, along with the present combination of colors, are relatively rare and must represent limited commissions for this style of decoration. Illustrated in Howard, "Choice of the Private Trader," pg. 70, no. 49. Provenance: "Christie's, London, "Fine Chinese Export Porcelain and Paintings," 6 July 1984, Lot 298; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Diameter: 9 in.
