The handles of a feathered-headdress form. The decoration of a floral garden terrace with two cockerels fighting over a beetle. Illustrated in David S. Howard, "Choice of the Private Trader," pg. 116, no. 113. Provenance: Christie's, London, "Fine Chinese Export Porcelain," 12 March 1986, Lot 222; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Reference: Beurdeley, "Porcelain of the East India Companies," pg. 43. Howard & Ayers, "China for the West," pg. 552. The handles are a simplified version of the more ornate mask form with upright feather headdress. The style was after a silver original, which was copied by Meissen, and was popular in Scandinavia. Height: 12 in x width: 14 in x depth: 9 in.
