Youssef Nabil, Egyptian (B. 1972- ) Jean Paul Gaultier, 2006 signed, located, and dated 'YOUSEFNABIL New York 2006' numbered '1 /10' (on the reverse), hand-colored silver gelatin print, printed in 2006 27 x 40 cm (print size) In original exhibition frame. Exhibited: Dubai, Portraits/Self-Portrait, Third Line Gallery, February-March 2007 Provenance: The Third Line, Dubai. Acquired from the above by the present owner, 2007. Youssef Nabil is an Egyptian artist and photographer who has had dozens of successful international exhibitions, both solo and group. Nabil uses the technique of colouring black and white silver prints by hand, resulting in idealised images haunted by both nostalgia and isolation. Many of his photographs portray a lone figure, walking alongside a landscape, absorbing the character as part of the scenery. His work largely hones in on the feeling of introspection, and yearning for something idealised yet unattainable. The texture of his photographic technique makes his subjects of the natural world seem artificial, as if seen through rose tinted glasses.
