A small rectangular nielloed and gilt silver cigarette case, Van, Ottoman provinces, 19th century, The slightly raised lid with the cityscape of Van within a lobed medallion against a chequered background, the reverse with an initialed cartouche amidst exuberant floral sprays within a similar medallion and against the same background, the gilt interior with openwork separators and stamped with maker's mark in Armenian script (Յ.խ) within elongated octagonal stamp and city mark in Arabic script (وان) within ovoid stamp, 9.4 x 5.4cm.
