Art Nouveau planter, ca. 1900. Patinated and cold-enameled bronze. In good overall condition, consistent with its age. Measurements: 25 x 15 x 11 cm. Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. This planter fully embodies the ornamental language of Art Nouveau, characterized by the integration of the female figure with plant motifs and by the predominance of organic, sinuous forms. The body is articulated by female masks with long, wavy hair, framed by large sunflower blossoms and leaves modeled in relief—elements that blend seamlessly with the piece’s structure. The composition combines the sculptural plasticity of bronze with cold enamel applications in greens, ochres, and reddish tones, which accentuate the naturalistic character of the decoration. The stylization of the faces, the ascending rhythm of the flowers, and the continuity between figure and nature place the piece within the international aesthetic of around 1900, when the decorative arts sought to transform functional objects into ensembles of marked ornamental unity.
