Dressing table with mirror. Central Europe, mid-19th century. Made of mahogany with fruitwood marquetry and a mirror. In good overall condition; signs of wear consistent with its age. Measurements: 65 x 52 x 37 cm (dressing table); 83 x 55 x 5 cm (mirror). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. This Central European dressing table set stands out for its compact design and the meticulous marquetry work, which serves as its primary decorative feature. The upper section, rectangular in shape, is decorated with fine fillet work, a geometric border, and a central star motif; its hinged lid incorporates a mirror on the reverse side and reveals a compartmentalized interior designed to hold small personal hygiene items. The piece stands on a turned shaft and a tripod base with scalloped profiles, a design that lends lightness to the ensemble and evokes Central European furniture of the late Neoclassical tradition. The freestanding mirror maintains the same decorative style, with a mahogany frame, an architectural molding, and a discreet marquetry motif, establishing a clear visual unity with the dressing table.
