Louis XVI-style side table. France, early 20th century. Mahogany wood, with bronze and marble fittings. In good overall condition. Shows slight signs of wear consistent with its age and use, with patina on the metal elements. Measurements: 76 × 59 × 59 cm. Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. This side table reflects the Louis XVI style, which was revived with particular success in 19th-century French furniture. Its circular structure rests on four straight legs with a square cross-section, joined at the bottom by a marble shelf that provides stability and accentuates the verticality of the design. The marble top is framed by an openwork bronze railing—a characteristic feature of this type of parlor table—while the base incorporates a practical drawer discreetly integrated into the structure. The combination of warm-toned mahogany, light-colored marble, and metallic details creates a refined hallmark, in keeping with the French neoclassical decorative style.
