ELISEO MEIFRÈN ROIG (Barcelona, 1857–1940). “Landscape.” Colored pencils on cardboard. Signed in the lower right corner. Provenance: the artist’s family. Measurements: 15.5 x 22 cm; 34.5 x 41 cm (frame) Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. A student of Antonio Caba at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, after completing his studies he spent some time in Paris, where he witnessed the public emergence of Impressionism and was introduced to “plein air” painting. He returned to Barcelona in 1879 and, that same year, won the gold medal at the Valencia Regional Exhibition. He held solo exhibitions in Spain, the United States, South America, and Europe. Throughout his career, he received awards at official exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Buenos Aires, and San Diego. His works are represented in the Prado Museum, the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the MACBA in Barcelona, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, among many others.
