JOAQUÍN TERRUELLA MATILLA (Barcelona, 1891–1957). “Garden.” Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. With a label from the Gothsland Gallery on the back. Measurements: 17.5 x 20 cm; 33 x 36 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. A nephew and follower of Segundo Matilla, Joaquín Terruella was also a disciple of Santiago Rusiñol. He traveled to Italy with Rusiñol and spent some time working with him in Aranjuez. He held his first solo exhibition at the Sala Goya in Barcelona in 1916. From then on, he held a series of exhibitions in Barcelona, primarily at the Parés Gallery, as well as in Paris (where he exhibited for the first time in 1922), Zaragoza, Bordeaux, and Biarritz. He was particularly noted for his bullfighting-themed works, and in fact worked as a bullfighting illustrator for the publications *El Día Gráfico* and *La Noche*, although he also explored other subjects, such as landscapes. Works by Terruella are held in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, and the Provincial Museum of Lugo.
