JOAN SALA LLOBERAS (Lloret de Mar, Girona, 1925–2010). “Seascape.” Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 54 x 65 cm; 69 x 80 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. A self-taught painter, writer, and fisherman, Joan Sala Lloberas felt a deep attraction to drawing. During the Civil War, he attended Joan Orihuel’s School of Arts and Crafts and was also a student of Joan Llaverias. He balanced painting with his professional life as a fishing boat captain and his work as president of the Fishermen’s Guild, and he devoted himself to immortalizing the landscape and daily life of his native Lloret, where he spent his entire life. He held solo exhibitions in 1965 and 1976 in Lloret, and in 2001 he participated in an exhibition held in the cloister of the Arxiu Històric de Sant Josep in Girona.
