JOSÉ ENTOSA DOMÉNECH (Barcelona, 1897 – Andraitx, Mallorca, 1982). “Port de Navarclés,” 1938. Oil on táblex. Signed in the lower left corner. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse. Measurements: 17.9 x 22 cm; 23.5 x 30 cm (frame) Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. A painter trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, he completed his studies in Brussels. In 1918, he joined the Barcelona-based group Nou Ambient, with which he exhibited repeatedly until 1932. He has lived in Mallorca since 1940, where he held a retrospective exhibition in 1979. His work began with an innovative style closely related to Cubism, which later evolved into a Post-Impressionist figurative style focused on Catalan and Mallorcan landscapes. He held his first solo exhibition in 1924 at the Sala Dalmau in Barcelona, where he continued to exhibit annually until 1954. He has also held exhibitions in various parts of Spain, as well as in Paris, London, Rome, and several American cities. In 1982, he was named an honorary citizen of Andraixt. His work is part of the MACBA’s collection.
