Spanish School, first third of the 20th century. "Seaside Landscape with Bathers." Oil on canvas mounted on panel. It has small stains and surface imperfections consistent with its age. Measurements: 25.5 × 49.5 cm; 31.5 × 56 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. The work belongs to the tradition of Mediterranean landscape painting with Impressionist roots, with a particular focus on light and atmospheric effects. The composition is organized into broad horizontal bands of sky, water, and landscape, while small figures of bathers introduce scale and liveliness in the foreground. The loose brushwork and light palette, dominated by blues, greens, and earthy tones, allow the landscape to be constructed through chromatic impressions rather than through meticulous description. The treatment of light and the expansiveness of the horizon lend the scene a serene and open character, typical of the landscape painting that developed in Spain during the early decades of the 20th century.
