EDUARDO JENER CASELLAS (Barcelona, 1882–1967). “Deià.” Oil on panel. Signed and titled in the lower right corner. Measurements: 40 x 51 cm; 51 x 62 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. The son of Valencian parents, he studied at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia until he was twenty-one. A set designer and advertising illustrator, he worked for more than thirty years for the perfume company Myrurgia. As a painter, his style is characterized by exuberant color and vigorous brushwork. His favorite subjects were Mallorcan landscapes, though he also painted Andalusian scenes, historical subjects based on the 17th century, and large group portraits set against scenic landscapes. He held exhibitions in Barcelona, the Netherlands, and Latin America. His work is represented in the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the Júlia Bonet Foundation Perfume Museum.
