OLEGUER JUNYENT SANS (Barcelona, 1876–1956). “Mallorca.” Oil on panel. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 36 x 43 cm; 42 x 49 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. A painter and set designer, Oleguer Junyent trained in Barcelona and Paris, and at the age of fifteen began working as a set designer for the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona. In 1923, he helped organize the Barcelona Furniture and Decoration Exhibition and also participated in the 1929 International Exhibition. He served as president of the Barcelona Artistic Circle (1925). Having distanced himself from the theater during those years, he devoted himself to decorative and easel painting, and in 1930 he won the “Barcelona as Seen by Its Artists” contest. His work is currently represented at the MACBA and the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, among others, as well as in various private collections.
