GUILLERMO GÓMEZ GIL (Málaga, 1862 – Cádiz, 1942). “Landscape.” Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 34 x 40 cm; 49 x 54.5 cm (frame). Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. Gómez Gil began his training in Málaga, where his first teacher was Emilio Ocón y Rivas; he later continued his studies as a pupil of Federico Ferrándiz and Antonio Muñoz Degrain. He specialized in landscape painting, particularly seascapes, paying special attention to lighting effects. He participated in the National Fine Arts Exhibitions, winning third prize in 1897 and second prize in 1901 and 1906. In 1910, he became a professor at the School of Arts and Industries in Seville, spending extended periods in Cádiz. His works are held in the Prado Museum, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, the Municipal Heritage Museum of Málaga, the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville, the Provincial Council of Zamora, and the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastián.
