MARIANO BERTUCHI Granada (1885) / Tetuan, Morocco (1955) "View of the Moroccan Pavilion at the 20th International Trade Fair of Valencia", 1942 Oil on paper. Signed, dated, located and dedicated: "Al Excm. S. General don Luis Orgaz/ Valencia Mayo 1942/ M. Bertuchi". This Pavilion of the Protectorate of Morocco was the work of the municipal architect of the Valencia City Council Javier Goerlich Lleo (1886-1972) and was inaugurated in May 1942, precisely when the present work is dated. Bertuchi's presence at that inauguration is no coincidence, since the Granada painter was part of a committee of experts who advised the architect on the construction of the pavilion, and he must have given the work to Luis Orgaz Yoldi (1881-1946), a prominent Spanish military officer, head of the High General Staff and at that time High Commissioner of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco (1941-1945). This building was a notable success and stood until 1956, serving the commercial purposes of the fair and bringing the Protectorate of Morocco closer to the peninsular public during the Franco era, the purpose for which it was built. Measurements: 32, 5 x 42.5 cm
