RICHTER (Jules). Photographic portrait of Jules Richter, history painter (1818–1902). Circa 1860–1870. Old photograph on albumen paper, mounted on cardboard. Full-length portrait. A beautiful photographic portrait depicting the history painter Jules Richter, standing in a confident pose, one hand tucked into his vest and the other resting on his hip. The artist, elegantly dressed in a dark suit, sports a full mustache and beard. He poses against a studio backdrop featuring large wooden paneling. The print displays delicate sepia tones and beautifully renders the details of the suit and face. On the reverse, an old handwritten inscription in pencil identifies the subject: “Jules Richter, history painter, 1818–1902.” The print shows some marks and scuffs, particularly along the edges and at the top, with slight alterations to the photographic surface.
