Autograph letter signed “Georges Hüe” to “Dear Sir” [Pierre Leroy]. No place, November 2 [undated]. 2 pages, in-8. AN INTERESTING LETTER CONCERNING HIS SYMPHONIC POEM *Edith au col de Cygne*, ITS PREMIERE, AND ITS LITERARY INSPIRATION. Georges Hüe responds to his correspondent, who is seeking information about his work *Edith au col de Cygne*. “*Edith* is a work from some time ago. In 1900, I was traveling in England and had asked my friend Maurice Chassang to write me a lyric poem. Upon my return, I found ‘Edith au col de Cygne,’ which perfectly captured my state of mind.” He then discusses the premiere of this composition: “A few months later, ‘Edith’ was performed at Chevillard’s by the poet’s wife, Mrs. Marthe Chassang. Since then, no one had performed it in major concerts.” Finally, he notes that the work was revived during the summer of 1918, amid the Allied victories, and mentions its inclusion in the program for November 11. A BEAUTIFUL LETTER DESCRIBING THE ORIGINS OF A MUSICAL WORK, ITS PERFORMERS, AND ITS RECEPTION IN THE AFTERMATH OF WORLD WAR I. Folded as part of correspondence. In good overall condition.
