HÜE (Georges) (1858–1948). French composer. Student of Charles Gounod and César Franck. Winner of the First Grand Prix de Rome in 1879 for his cantata *Médée*. Autograph letter signed “Georges Hüe” to his friend, the composer Marc Delmas. Friday, October 29, [1921]. 2 pages, in-8 format, on a folded sheet. A FRIENDLY LETTER IN WHICH GEORGES HÜE CONGRATULATES MARC DELMAS ON AN HONORARY AWARD. Georges Hüe apologizes to his correspondent for the delay in his congratulations: “I am very late in sending you my heartfelt congratulations! And my silence must have seemed unkind to you…” He explains that he was unaware of the decoration his friend had received on July 14: “But I had absolutely no idea that you had been decorated on July 14, and I still wouldn’t have known if Charles, who just came to see me, hadn’t told me!” With humor, he acknowledges his lack of attention to the press and honorary awards. He concludes by extending his regards to Madame Delmas. A CHARMING TESTAMENT TO THE BOND OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TWO FRENCH COMPOSERS OF THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY. In good overall condition, with creases from handling.
