GODARD (Benjamin) (1849–1895), French composer and conductor, particularly famous for his melodies, chamber music, and the operas *Jocelyn* and *La Vivandière*. Autograph letter signed “Benjamin Godard” to a lady. No place, July 29, 1890. 1 page, in-8. A short invitation letter addressed to a female correspondent and a young student of the composer. “Madam, I would be delighted to see you, as well as my charming student, next Monday, July 31, at 4:30 p.m.” Godard notes that he is currently in Paris, which explains why he did not write sooner. This correspondence attests to the composer’s attention to his students and his willingness to assist them. The paper shows a few old creases and slight signs of wear.
