GANNE (Louis) (1862–1923), French composer and conductor, best known for the operettas *Les Saltimbanques* and *La Mascotte*. Autograph letter signed “Louis Ganne” to Marcel Hutin. An interesting letter concerning the defense of French composers’ copyrights in Russia. Louis Ganne thanks his correspondent for his commitment to a campaign aimed at defending the interests of French authors: “I wholeheartedly support you in the campaign you are undertaking to defend copyrights in Russia. ” He denounces the difficulties faced by artists and advocates for official intervention: “Our dear friends and allies truly have a most peculiar understanding of artistic property; it would be good to bring them back to a more equitable perspective.” He concludes: “I therefore believe that the French government must intervene vigorously in this matter of high integrity and national interest!” A fine letter reflecting the concerns of French composers regarding the international protection of intellectual property in the early 20th century, within the context of Franco-Russian diplomatic relations. Handwritten address to Marcel Hutin, editor at *L'Écho de Paris*, Place de l'Opéra. Stamp and postmarks preserved. A few signs of age.
