DILLON (Juliette) (1823–1854) French pianist, composer, and music critic; founder and editor-in-chief of *L'Avenir musical*. Autograph letter signed “Juliette Dillon,” addressed to Mr. Ledru, administrator of the Opera. Paris, December 28, 1852. 1 p. in-4, in brown ink, on printed letterhead of *L'Avenir musical*, 3 Rue Le Peletier, Paris. Recipient’s address on the reverse. An interesting letter concerning the relationship between the music press and the administration of the Paris Opera during the Second Empire. Juliette Dillon requests two tickets for *L'Avenir musical* for the upcoming Opera performances. She notes that a previous request regarding her *Chronique de la Semaine* had not been granted and emphasizes the validity of her request: “Please be so kind as to provide me with two tickets, which you have reserved for *L’Avenir musical* for tomorrow’s opera performance.” She concludes by expressing her hope that her correspondent will look favorably upon this request, which she considers legitimate. An interesting insight into the work of Juliette Dillon, a prominent female figure in Parisian music criticism in the mid-19th century, and into the relationship between journalists and opera institutions. Some old creases, a few light foxing spots, and signs of handling.
