DELAQUERRIÈRE (Louise, née de Miramont-Tréogate) (1845–1911). French opera singer, composer, and teacher. Autograph letter signed “Louise Delaquerrière née de Miramont-Tréogate,” addressed to a gentleman. Alençon, June 15, 1892. 4 pages, in-4 format, in black ink, on laid paper. An interesting autograph letter in which the composer discusses the difficulties she encountered in organizing musical rehearsals with her accompanists, notably Georges Mathon, and requests an appointment to work with her husband. “Although I have never been in the habit of going to my accompanists’ homes to rehearse, I went today [...] to Mr. Georges Mathon’s home, intending to rehearse my aria from *La Fille du Régiment* and to schedule a meeting for the Philémon duet and Joseph’s aria, which my husband is to sing. ” She recounts with some irritation the complications caused by her musicians’ unavailability, particularly one accompanist whose fame she ironically highlights: “Just because he has a famous name, does this gentleman perhaps imagine that he is the king of accompanists, as his very kind father so rightly deserves the title? ” She concludes by asking her correspondent to please organize the rehearsals under better conditions: “Since we haven’t rehearsed in advance, believe me, we would be very sorry to have to break our promise to you.” Louise Delaquerrière (1845–1911), née de Miramont-Tréogate, was an opera singer, composer, and teacher. In 1880, she married the tenor Louis Delaquerrière, with whom she had a son, José Delaquerrière, who himself became a Quebec tenor, composer, and actor. This letter offers a vivid account of rehearsal practices, the relationships between singers and accompanists, and the demands of musical life in the late 19th century. A few old creases, slight foxing, and signs of handling. In good condition.
