CHARPENTIER (Gustave) (1860–1956). French composer. Author of the opera *Louise*. Autographed business card with a message of thanks and compliments. Business card printed in the name of “Gustave Charpentier,” bearing his address: 48 Boulevard Rochechouart, Paris. Handwritten text in black ink on both the front and back, with an abbreviated signature. Undated. A charming autographed calling card from the famous composer of *Louise*, reflecting his connections to the musical world and his thoughtfulness toward his correspondents. On the front of his personal card, Gustave Charpentier addresses a few words of gratitude to his correspondent: “Grateful for your kind remembrance, with my best regards.” On the reverse, he continues his message by referring to information he received and a musical study: “For your insightful and enthusiastic study of our … music.” The last part of the text remains difficult to decipher with certainty. Nevertheless, the document attests to an exchange centered on music and music criticism. Gustave Charpentier (1860–1956), a French composer, was a student of Jules Massenet at the Paris Conservatory and won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1887. He remains particularly famous for his opera *Louise*, premiered at the Opéra-Comique in 1900—an emblematic work of French musical naturalism—as well as for *Julien*, premiered in 1913. Deeply attached to Montmartre and Parisian artistic life, he founded Mimi Pinson’s Conservatoire populaire, intended to promote the musical education of young female factory workers. An interesting small autograph memento of a major figure in French opera of the Belle Époque. Business card mounted on a black cardboard backing. In good overall condition, with slight signs of handling and small marginal marks. Handwritten notes on both sides.
