BRUNEAU (Alfred) (1857–1934). Autograph letter signed “Lucie Caffaret” to a lady. Paris, April 6, 1907. 2 pages, in-12 format. An interesting letter from the young pianist, then fourteen years old, regarding the Peters edition and her upcoming musical performances. Lucie Caffaret notes that Peters edition No. 1703 B contains two works she has just performed in Belgium: “Mendelssohn’s piece in A-flat is found in the Peters edition No. 1703 B. It is a collection that includes: Capriccio, Op. 5—Characterstücke, Op. 7—among which you will find the fourth piece that I played in Orléans. ” She then warmly thanks her correspondent: “I have fond memories of the warm welcome you gave us, and I send you my best regards. ” This letter offers insight into the early years of Lucie Caffaret’s career—a young virtuoso who earned distinction at the Conservatory at an early age—and her repertoire, which was devoted in particular to Mendelssohn. Slightly yellowed paper, creases, and minor signs of handling. Autograph signature.
