BRUNEAU (Alfred) (1857–1934). French composer. A friend of Émile Zola, whose works he adapted for the opera stage, notably *Le Rêve*, *L'Attaque du moulin*, and *Messidor*. He was one of the leading figures of French musical naturalism. Autograph letter signed “Alfred Bruneau” to a friend who was a conductor [Charles Lamoureux]. No place, August 11, 1910. 1 page, in-8. An interesting letter of congratulations regarding a performance of *La Belle au bois dormant*, a symphonic work by Alfred Bruneau, conducted by Charles Lamoureux. “I was there yesterday when you performed *La Belle au bois dormant*. I was delighted with the performance. I would have liked to tell you so right away, but I had to go to Chevillard’s immediately after my piece. ” The composer goes on to warmly thank his correspondent: “Thank you again to you and your excellent musicians. And please accept, dear friend, my warmest regards. ” This letter attests to Bruneau’s satisfaction with the performance of his work and his relationships with the great conductors of his time. White paper, center fold, a few small foxing spots. Beautiful autograph signature.
