127 - Abraham Solomon (British, 1824-1862) “I love another!” signed with monogram and dated '1861' (lower left) oil on canvas Unframed: 53.5 x 42.5 cm. (21 x 16 3/4 in.) Framed: 69 x 57 cm. (27 1/8 x 22 1/2 in.) Sale; Bonhams, London, 21 March 2017, lot 101, where purchased by the present owner; Private Collection, London. Born in London into a wealthy Orthodox Jewish family, Abraham Solomon’s prodigious artistic talents were noticed at a young age. He encouraged his siblings Simeon Solomon (1840-1905) and Rebecca Solomon (1832-1886) to also pursue a career in art. Although his masterpieces, Waiting for the Verdict, and Not Guilty (1857-9; Tate Gallery) are courtroom dramas strongly tinged with social realism, he was equally at home in with subjects drawn from literature, and lighter genre.
