The composition is after Rubens' etching (Hollstein, vol. 20, 1978, p. 119, cat. 48) after an original painting now in the Mauritshuis (inv. no. 1150). The original painting by Schalcken is now held by the National Museum in Warsaw (inv. no. M.Ob.73).
