14 - After Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452-1519) Study of a male head red chalk Unframed: 8.5 x 7.1 cm. (3 3/8 x 2 3/4 in.) Private Collection, U.K. After the original drawing by Leonardo da Vinci titled Tete De Vieillard Imberbe, Tourne Vers La Gauche (inventory no. 1325).1 Comparison of the present example can also be made with a red chalk portrait of the same sitter circa 1490, currently held in the British Museum (no.1900,0824.106). When commenting on this, A.E. Popham noted that 'a prominent aquiline nose and jutting chin is a recurring one in Leonardo's work'.2 References: 1Müntz, p. 522, repr. p. 414; B.
