LIP - LIP "CARTOUCHE" watch by François de BASCHMAKOFF (reference 42991, 1972–1973). Hand-wound mechanical movement (caliber R879) with jumping hours. Rectangular steel case, 34 mm in diameter. Screw-down case back. Window at 9 o’clock with hours, minutes, and seconds displayed on discs. Integrated steel bracelet. Watch was in working order at the time of appraisal. Shows signs of use. Sold without box or papers. Emmanuel Lipmann founded the watchmaking company that became Lip in Besançon in 1867. The company distinguished itself as much for its technical innovations as for the design of its watches. The T18, created in the 1930s, made history when a specimen was presented to Winston Churchill by the French government in 1948, in recognition of his role during World War II. In 1952, Lip unveiled a prototype of an electric wristwatch; this research led to the R27 caliber, which was released in 1958. That same year, Fred Lip presented General de Gaulle with a gold model featuring a dial specially designed for better readability. The “Nautic-Ski” from 1967 and the “Mach 2000,” designed by Roger Tallon in 1975, exemplify the brand’s commitment to innovation and design. Its history also has a social dimension: in 1973, the labor dispute at the Besançon factory became a symbol of workers’ struggles. Specific Terms of Sale: Please note that all watches are sold “as is.” No warranty is provided regarding their operating condition; therefore, a service is recommended. Some watches have been opened to identify the type and quality of the movement, including water-resistant watches; therefore, the buyer is advised to consult a watchmaker to have the watch’s water resistance checked. Lot from a voluntary sale.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
