Slevogt, Max. Collection of 3 sketches and one signed photograph. Pen-and-ink drawings on lined paper and a silver gelatin print with pencil markings. One of the sketches and the photograph are dated. 1921 and 1927. Dimensions of sketches: 15 x 9 cm. Dimensions of photograph: 16.5 x 11.6 cm. Mounted on backing: 25.5 x 18 cm. The sketches, which include brief comments by Max Slevogt (1868–1932) alongside the drawings, were created on February 7, 1921, during a performance of Johann Strauss’s opera *The Beautiful Blue Danube* in Düsseldorf. The sketch depicts the conductor Richard Lert. Slevogt likely gave the sketches as a gift that evening to his friend and patron, retired Cavalry Captain Konrad Wrede. Wrede and Slevogt himself are pictured in the accompanying photograph. It is signed by both and dated by Slevogt as March 7, 1927. — The sketches, with torn edges on the left (sketchbook), are generally discolored, rubbed, partly with crease marks and a few brown spots, rarely with marginal discoloration; one drawing has handwritten numbers on the reverse; the photograph is mounted on a backing, with some slight silvering along the edges.
