Kallir D1743 – Leopold Museum, Vienna, Inv. 8314 12. - Sheet from the only reproduction portfolio published during the artist’s lifetime in an edition of 400 copies. Printed under the artist’s supervision at Max Jaffé’s Graphische Anstalt in Vienna. The negatives and printing plates were subsequently destroyed. - “The portfolio of Schiele’s drawings from the years 1913–1917 must be regarded as an incunabulum of Austrian art of this century. Published amid difficult circumstances—both general and personal—in the midst of World War I, this publication first brought Schiele’s work to the public’s attention in a significant way; until then, he had not been granted a major or solo exhibition, and his success did not come until the following year, the year of his death.” (Holstein, Catalog 65, 1978, No. 423).—On the reverse, the upper corners show remnants of a previous mounting; the corners have some crease marks, and the edges are slightly rubbed in places.
