This lithograph was published on the occasion of the retrospective of the Belgian-born poet and painter, “Henri Michaux—Choix des Œuvres des années 1946–1966,” at the Galerie Le Point Cardinal in Paris. - “Michaux devised a mysterious ‘musical notation,’ imaginary written symbols that were more structured graphemes than images. Finally, in 1956, he painted while under the influence of drugs; the mescaline drawings led definitively to informal abstraction.” (Lothar-Günther Lang, Surrealism and Book Art, p. 104). - Mounted on the reverse at two points beneath the mat; visible light-stained edges within the mat cutout. - Provenance: Ketterer, Hamburg, 2013; in a private collection in northern Germany ever since.
