Portfolio - From Worpswede. New Series, 1897. With 1 etched title vignette and 12 original etchings by Hans am Ende, Fritz Mackensen, Fritz Overbeck, and Heinrich Vogeler. Berlin, O. Felsing for Fischer and Franke, 1897. 53 x 36 cm. Loose in original half-linen portfolio with black-embossed title on the cover and a cover illustration by Heinrich Vogeler (slightly rubbed and dusty, corners slightly bumped, the inner hinges of the flaps showing only minor wear). The founders of the Worpswede artists’ colony near Bremen—Hans am Ende, Fritz Mackensen, Fritz Overbeck, and Heinrich Vogeler—published the portfolio *Vom Weyerberg* in 1895, followed two years later by *Aus Worpswede*. The Art Nouveau-style cover of the portfolio is by Vogeler; the etchings were printed by Otto Felsing. — The portfolio contains a collaborative title etching by Vogeler and Mackensen (Rief 22, III a) as well as three prints by each artist (sheet dimensions: 51 x 35 cm): by Fritz Overbeck, “Worpswede,” “Ein stiller Winkel,” “Aus meinem Fenster”; by Heinrich Vogeler, “Dornröschen” (Rief 20, II b), “Frühlingsabend” (Rief 18 c), “Die Lärche” (Rief 19, II b); by Fritz Mackensen: “Die Hamme,” “Jan van Moor,” “Fleth”; and by Hans am Ende: “Kinderköpchen,” “Moor Landscape” and “Little Birch Grove.”—The upper left corner of the title page shows some creasing; the edges of the other prints are partly only slightly bumped; the pages are partly slightly browned; overall, a very fine copy. - Provenance: Grisebach (2007, Auction 158), private collection, Berlin.
