Kolbe, Georg. Female Nude, Seated on the Floor. Pencil drawing washed in sepia on sturdy vellum. Monogrammed "CK" in the lower right corner next to the handwritten dedication to "Richard Hamann for the beautiful photographs." Circa 1927. Sheet dimensions: 49.3 x 34.5 cm. This lifelike study of movement was evidently a gift for the art historian Richard Hamann (1879–1961). The founder of the Foto Marburg image archive systematically cataloged Georg Kolbe’s sculptural work for the Marburg archive and corresponded directly with Kolbe. Among other things, a correspondence from 1927 has been preserved in which the sculptor asked Hamann to take photographs of his sculpture “Große Kauernde” in the garden of the Marburg Art Institute. - Mounted on the reverse in the upper corners beneath the mat; the cutout area is slightly discolored. - Provenance: Bassenge, Berlin (2009); since then in a private Berlin collection.
