Klimt, Gustav. Collection of 4 erotic nudes from the portfolio “Twenty-Five Hand Drawings (from the Lederer Collection, Vienna).” Photoprints on vellum, each mounted on cardboard on the reverse along the upper edge of the sheet. Vienna, Gilhofer & Rauschburg, 1919. Sheet dimensions: approx. 51.5 x 34 cm. Mounting boards: 40 x 57.5 cm. A beautiful collection of four photoprints from the portfolio, printed in a total edition of 510 copies by the Kunstanstalt Max Jaffé. - The wonderful drawings from the Vienna Lederer Collection were published by Gilhofer & Ranschburg as large-format photoprints one year after Klimt’s death. During his lifetime, there were apparently some reservations about his erotic depictions. - The Lederer family’s collection was one of the largest private collections of works by Gustav Klimt. It was forcibly expropriated in 1938 and largely stored at Immendorf Castle in Lower Austria, where, under circumstances that remain unclear, most of it is said to have been burned in early 1945. - The original backing boards are mounted on the reverse side in the upper corners beneath the mat boards; they are slightly browned. The mounted collotypes are in some cases minimally creased along the edges, and one sheet is slightly stained.
